PHILADELPHIA -- Twice, the Philadelphia Flyers needed video replay to decide if a goal counted.
One did, one didn't.
Claude Giroux didn't need the officials to check his winner.
Giroux scored 5:59 into overtime to give the Flyers a 4-3 victory over Chicago in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals Wednesday night, cutting the Blackhawks' series lead to 2-1. Game 4 is Friday night in Philadelphia.
Giroux scored on a redirection off Matt Carle's pass, beating Antti Niemi to decide the third straight one-goal game in the series.
"I tried to get a stick on it, and it just trickled in," Giroux said. "Our line started playing well, so anytime your line's going you just play better I think. The whole team just showed up tonight, and we really wanted that win.
"Desperation was the key word, I think. It's almost do or die."
The Flyers already rallied to win a series after dropping the first three games to Boston in the Eastern Conference semifinals. While they talked all week about having faith they could do it again, the Flyers won't have to try.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- At some point this postseason, it would have seemed preposterous the Blackhawks would have more wins in the Stanley Cup final than Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews have points combined.
Yet, that's the reality for Chicago after winning the first two games at home.
Toews and Kane have been noticeably missing on the scoresheet. Not a point, not an assist. Their sticks have barely touched the puck, reducing Chicago's star forwards to jumping in the celebration pile and not igniting one.
In a series where goalie Antti Niemi and a roll call list of scorers have put the Blackhawks ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers 2-0, Toews and Kane have yet to play a major role in helping Chicago try and win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1961.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Montreal Canadiens

Suddenly, the Pittsburgh Penguins are the top seed in the Eastern Conference. They'll now face the Montreal Canadiens, who became the first No. 8 seed to erase a 3-1 series deficit and defeat a No. 1 seed thanks to their shocking 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.

The Habs will once again be heavy underdogs against the defending Stanley Cup champions. But you know what? We don't think they mind.

As for the Penguins, this will be the first playoff meeting between Sidney Crosby and his boyhood favorite team, a team that long ago drafted his father, Troy. The Penguins had a few stutter-steps in knocking off Ottawa in six games in the first round, but they rebounded from a 3-0 deficit in the clinching game, just as they did against the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round last year.
